Lightning Ridge Water Supply Pumps

Thursday, March 22, 2012

On the 8th of February 2012, rising flood waters were threatening two Southern Cross Starline motor-pumps in the Lightning Ridge water supply pumping station, it was obvious that the pumps would not survive the rising waters, and extensive repairs would be required. Walgett Shire Council, on advice from the local Lightning Ridge electrician, made the decision to replace both the pump units, to ensure that the Lightning Ridge community would not be without water for any longer than necessary.

Photographic details of the existing pumps were provided, which allowed Tyco Pumping Systems to identify the exact requirement for the replacements; but they had to be on site as soon as possible. TPS were able to build the pumps within hours of being advised that supply was required; and the pump units were ready for dispatch by lunchtime on Friday 10th; but the rising flood waters had cut the highway to Walgett. The first road freight available was Monday 20th; but it could only get as far as Moree. The units were dispatched on Monday morning, consigned to the Moree airport, from  where they were transported via SES helicopter to Walgett, for installation in the new Lightning Ridge Water Supply pump station.

TPS achieves Triple Quality Certification

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Tyco Pumping Systems' (TPS) Adelaide, Olympic Dams and Exeter facilities have achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification, the latest ISO standard designation. TPS received its certificate from International Certifications Pty Ltd, the same independent auditing firm that evaluated TPS when it achieved its ISO 9001:2008 Certification for Withcott and Stapylton facilities. This further demonstrates the organization's commitment to quality-of-service standards established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

To verify that ISO initiatives are ongoing and quality improvement continuous, International Certifications conducted its Quality Management System certification audits to ISO 9001:2008 standards. This audit happened on 6th – 8th December 2011 and addressed all areas of TPS operation - from engineering, product design and manufacturing, delivery, to installation and commissioning, and customer service. This audit process resulted in TPS's certification achieving ISO 9001:2008 standards.

International Certification Pty Ltd stated that ISO 9001:2008 certification is a significant achievement. The overall aim was to standardise Quality Management Systems processes and documentation across TPS various sites. As noted by the auditor, Continual Improvement is the fundamental approach to ISO9001:2008, and this goes for all TPS processes and documentation.

Effective quality management is indispensable. Especially during economic times like these, Customers want to be confident that they are doing business with an organization that can meet or exceed their requirements in a timely manner. Because it is an internationally recognized quality management system, ISO 9001:2008 certification gives TPS customers a reason to have that confidence.

The ISO 9001:2008 standard specifies Quality Management System (QMS) requirements focused on an organization's ability to meet and improve upon customer satisfaction and quality requirements. As part of the certification process, TPS has established, maintained and improved upon its own QMS to ensure that the company's customer support organization continues its commitment to customer satisfaction.

Tyco Team Conquers Northern Territory Tank

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

Interesting logistics skills were required as part of the upgrade of water supply infrastructure to a remote Northern Territory community (Australia).

The project undertaken by Water Dynamics and Tyco Pumping Systems' Tank Division, involved the supply and installation of a 1.8 million litre water storage tank and 6kms of DN250 PVC pipeline on one of the Territories island communities.

With the 1.8Ml Southern Cross Squatter Tank for the project weighing in at 46,000kg, the logistics of transporting it from manufacture in Withcott, South East Queensland to this remote site was a challenge the Tyco team were up for.

The Southern Cross tank required two forty foot trailers to accommodate it for the road trip to Darwin. Once in Darwin the two trailers and two prime movers had to be loaded onto a seagoing barge for the 12 hour steaming to site. Upon arrival to the island, makeshift landings needed to be prepared to enable the safe unloading of both vehicles and cargo.

Projects of this nature are ideally suited to the modular design of the Southern Cross Squatter Tank. The unique modular design coupled with the extensive engineering and factory fabrication process enables the Southern Cross Squatter tank to be installed in these remote locations.

Nick Day of Water Dynamics – Darwin advised "the delivery of the Southern Cross Tank was a critical item in the overall project schedule. In co-operation with the team at Tyco Pumping Systems' Tank Division, Water Dynamics Darwin had the product manufactured and delivered ahead of schedule and without incident. Our installation team received ongoing support during the erection process from the Engineered Tanks team including a site visit from the Tank Product Manager. The collective effort by Tyco resulted in this project being completed ahead of the scheduled Practical Completion date and in line with our budget expectation"
